Fucoxanthin
Fucoxanthin refers to a type of carotenoid coloring that exists mostly in brown algae including sea mustard, kelp, gulfweed and fusiformis, etc.
▲ It is type of xanthophyll, which is a carotenoid coloring, obtained in brown colored crystalline if separated in its pure state.
It performs the role of storing carbohydrates in the form of chrysolaminarin.
▲ It generally has a brown color due to presence of relatively large quantity of unique photosynthetic pigment of brown algae called Fucoxanthin in comparison to the quantity of chlorophyll.
It assists with photosynthesis by capturing and delivering 80% of the light energy to chlorophyll.
Light energy in the wavelength range of 450~540nm in the light spectrum is absorbed with the largest amount of light in the wavelength range of 510~525nm being absorbed.
▲ Fucoxanthin drew attention due to its ability to prevent obesity by burning up fat in the body. It plays the role of suppressing the generation as well as reduction of white fat cells, in particular, visceral fat cells. Ingredients of Fucoxanthin was highlighted as a substance for reduction of body weight when it was reported at the 32nd Symposium of the America Chemical Society as a substance that suppresses the accumulation of fat in the body and promote weight reduction. In addition, research team of Kobe University, Japan reported its effects on prevention of colorectal cancer and liver cancer in 2004.
